Welcome to the House Finch Blog

Well in an effort to have a nesting birds for you, I have placed a camera on a house finch that is nesting at my house on top of a propane tank. This pair has started nesting within the last week and have five beautiful blue eggs with black spots. Unlike eagles, the finches lay eggs and raise their young all within a month, so watch closely.

At the moment this camera only has a refreshing still image but I am working on getting video as well. Stay tuned and let me know what you see!

I will provide you with more information on the finch's natural history within a couple of days.

Well Happy Mother's Day!

What a cool little surprise....now I really wish my 15 second thingy worked - I bet she'll be a busy mom!

Wing what can you tell us about incubation duties, etc in the finch world??

Wing will you test one of their eggs? Where do Finches figure into your contaminent studies? Are they insect eaters? They still must endure the poisons of fish eating birds as acid rain must hurt the insect population....how far off-base am I?

She's just adorable curled up in the nest when I checked in on them this a.m. Thanks again for letting us peek thru the keyhole!

Hello All:

Very cool, up close and personal!!
One hatching at 8:00 a.m.

How often does the still cam refresh? We're stuck at 8:00:14.

Isn't mother nature great?

Webcam does not refresh, is there a certain setting to get it to automatically refresh? Right now the only way is to close IE and reopen to webcam. Thanks for help. Keep up the good work.

I have a really stupid question -- how do you get your gas delivered if there is a nest in there? Thanks so much for this, it fills a void!!
